"A Dozen Life Lessons' Workshop offered
The Flint Hills Technical College business administrative technology program and the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) will be offering a workshop entitled “A Dozen Life Lessons” on Wednesday, April 23 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the College. The cost of the workshop is $27 per participant and includes lunch provided by students in the FHTC hospitality/culinary arts program.

Mary A. Redmond, will present the humorous workshop. When Redmond donned her first hat over 17 years ago, she gained a new HATITUDE. Now, as a seven-day-a-week, hat wearing woman, Redmond shares stories of courage: her own and those of other fearless women. These stories inspire and challenge her audience to create new way of looking at life.

Using only a dozen from her collection of over 150 hats, Redmond reveals life changing experiences and opportunities for growth. She challenges participants to make subtle adjustments that will increase their personal power and passion for life, no matter what their age.

In sharing her story, Redmond was guided to a new attitude of gratitude for life’s blessings. She will inspire listeners as she tells about the time she decided to leave the proper hat at home.

While wearing the proper topper, Redmond faced her fears of public speaking and overcame her need to please everyone all the time. She shares a few of her secrets of self-acceptance and the danger of setting expectations too high.

Her presentation engages and delights audience with touches of humor, compassion and courage. She invites her audiences to learn to listen actively to the many cues and co-incidences that await each of us every day, if only we become proactive players in our own lives.

Redmond is the president of Independent Lease Review, Inc. For over 21 years, Redmond was a sales representative with several top industry-leasing firms. In 2004, she decided to take an additional challenge and conquer some old fears to become a professional speaker. In 2005 and 2006 she presented four workshops at the IAAP International Convention and Educational Forum. Redmond has spoken to numerous IAAP Chapters in both Kansas and Missouri. In 2007, Redmond added a motivational and humorous presentation to her speaking repertoire with her presentation: A Dozen Life Lessons.

Dental Hygiene Accreditation

The Flint Hills Technical College dental hygiene program was officially accredited by the American Dental Association on February 28, 2008. Faculty for the dental hygiene program received notification that the program meets all of the standards required by the ADA and that FHTC may deliver the program.

The dental hygiene program underwent a thorough review from a Dental Accreditation visiting team on October 30 and 31, 2007. The visit included a review of the facility, curriculum, administrative support and assessment processes.

FHTC will provide a dental hygiene reception for the dental community on March 13th at 6:30 p.m. to inform interested parties about the program curriculum and eligibility requirements for prospective students.

The program will start during the summer 2008 semester and 12 students will be admitted. Persons interested in applying need to have completed an ADA accredited dental assisting program with a GPA of 3.0; received the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) Certification; and completed general education courses specific for dental hygiene education.
