Students will learn medical transcription skills in a beginning course. Students will practice physician dictation by becoming familiar with basic medical reports, and will use the appropriate format for transcribing reports. Students will learn related medical terminology, their roots, and abbreviations. Students will learn specialized rules of grammar and punctuation peculiar to dictated medical reports. Students will be exposed to many dictating variables in style and punctuation as well as genuine distractions of hospital noises and voices.
