Students will perform according to safe and ethical standards of the dental profession. This course delivers the basic background for orientation to dental assisting and the Dental Assisting Program.  The Dental Assisting Program Handbook is reviewed and all safety practices are studied. Dental ethics and jurisprudence are highlighted throughout the course. DA principles also encompass the principle of working as a team member, the operation and maintenance of dental equipment, positioning of the dental team and patient, identification of instruments and instrument transfer, protection of the oral cavity during dental procedures, and the application of expanded functions in Kansas.
