Westar Partnership Signing
Westar Energy and Flint Hills Technical College are partnering to offer a Westar Pre-Apprentice Program
which will integrate Westar and FHTC online training needs. Through the program, which will go live in
January, 2011, FHTC will develop and offer an online certificate program to provide individual
pre-qualification training for Westar Energy. The program is open to trainees for Westar and the
trainees that pass the program will be eligible to continue with Westar in further power plant professional
training.
“The program is a perfect match for FHTC because all of the subjects are already taught and incorporated as part of our current power plant technology online program, which specifically serves the power plant industry in our region,” said Steve Harmon, Business & Industry Center Director.
The 7 or 9 module course will replicate the traditional power plant technology program content currently taught at FHTC. Courses will use Westar provided content with FHTC training management. All instruction will take place online and be instructor facilitated and managed. Each module will require completion of the necessary training module to be followed by a test. All participants must pass the required seven module tests to receive a training certificate.
On Wednesday, May 26th, Westar signed a partnership with Flint Hills Technical College to introduce the partnership.
