Jones Foundation History
Walter S. and Evan C. Jones were the sons of Welsch parents, and were reared on a farm north of Lebo in Coffey County, Kansas. They turned 200 acres of inherited land into a successful farming and cattle partnership that spanned 56,000 acres in Kansas and Texas.
The Jones brothers died within a few months of each other in 1953. Under the terms of their wills, the Walter S. and Evan C. Jones Foundation was established to assist children in Coffey, Lyon and Osage counties with their medical expenses. Education benefits were later added to assist with postsecondary education.
With the Tuition Voucher Program, the Jones Foundation's goal is to increase the number of students who pursue a college education, and to encourage them to obtain that education at Flint Hills Technical College.
