What is it?

• Homework Kansas is “free online tutoring”
• For students in grades 4-12 and introductory college classes
• BUT anyone can use it!!
• Tutoring available in Math, Science, English, and Social Studies

Dates and times available:

• Accessible daily 4:00-11:00 pm
• Available in Spanish for math and science, Sunday-Thursday 4:00-9:00 pm

How to access:

• Can access from any computer using Kansas Library Card *
• Technical requirements: 
  • Computer with Internet access
  • Windows 2000 or XP
  • Explorer 6.0
  • Macromedia Flash 8 or 9 plug-in installed
  • Does not work with Macintosh products
  • Works with dial-up as well as high-speed Internet access

Tutors: 

• Are certified teachers, college professors, or graduate students
• All are proven subject experts and are trained and mentored

Security:

• All tutors have gone through background check for safety
• It is a controlled chat environment
• No personal information is exchanged
• Sessions are recorded and reviewed

• Wait time: usually under 1 minute; a box will appear to let students  know how long the wait time will be
• Answer two questions – grade? and subject?
• Click on “pencil” option to use whiteboard
• Chat
• Average session has been 20-40 minutes
• Users can print a transcript of both the chat and the whiteboard
