The Practical Nursing certificate program, which contains technical education courses, is two and a half semesters in length. Students participate in planned and supervised experiences—classroom, laboratory, clinical internships—directed toward performing nursing measures with precision, safety and efficiency consistent with nursing concepts and practices. Clinical practice is correlated with basic therapeutic knowledge and introductory content from the biological and behavioral sciences. A program advisory committee, composed of health professionals, annually updates industry expectations. Graduates are prepared for entry-level positions in the nursing field and advancement in chosen careers. Certificate courses also fulfill many of the requirements of the Practical Nursing AAS degree program. Click here for more information.

Student Organization:

Introduction:

The CSO recognizes career and technical students who excel in their occupational area, leadership development activities and citizenship projects.

Business and industry involvement is important.  Health occupations, leadership and citizenship skills experts donate their time to serve as competition judges.

The CSO by the very nature of competition urges students to take pride in their work.  It also provides prospective employers with an opportunity to see dedicated, motivated potential employees at work.

Mission:

The CSO is a student organization whose mission is to promote career opportunities in technical and career education and to enhance the delivery of quality career and technical skills in the job setting.

Purpose:

The primary purpose of the CSO is to serve the needs of its members and strengthen business/industry partnerships in the following ways:

         a.  Foster programs and activities, which will develop:

                        1.  Physical, mental and social well-being of the individual

                        2.  Leadership, character and citizenship

                        3.  Ethical practices and respect for the dignity of work

         b.  Foster self-actualization of each member, which contributes to
meeting the individual's psychological, social, and economic needs.

c.  Build the confidence of students in themselves and their work by providing opportunities to assume responsibilities and by developing personal and occupational competencies and social skills that lead to realistic choices of careers and successful employment in their field of study.

d.  Promote inter-organization relationships with professional groups, businesses, industries and other organizations.

e.  Recognize individual achievement in scholarship, occupational skills or services rendered, by providing recognition and awards.

f.  Promote involvement in current business/industry issues, environmental concerns and survival needs of the community, the nation and the world.
