Interactive Digital Systems

Mission:

Students entering into the broad field of Multimedia will gain an overall view of how the various components of video production, web production, computer graphics and presentation work together to educate the audience. The destination for content creation has expanded to include not only the Internet but hand held devices and new presentation mediums. Students will learn how to present information for these new venues. Students will learn the skills to produce content in various media standards and how to present their work to a variety of audiences.

Important Information:

Students choosing the Interactive Digital Systems program will use a variety of software including:
  • Adobe Creative Suite including: Photoshop®, Illustrator®, Bridge®, Acrobat®, Dreamweaver®, Flash®, After Effects®, Premier®, Media Encoder®, Audition®, and Story®

Description:

Multimedia professionals have a wide range of employment options including self-employment, freelance design, and in-house opportunities. Small businesses to large corporations often hire multimedia experts to develop content for marketing or training purposes. The educational industry presents instructional design, training, and marketing opportunities. Governmental agencies also employ multimedia specialists to create presentation and promotional materials. Television and radio stations also provide employment opportunities.

The multimedia industry provides qualified professionals a wide range of employment opportunities. As hardware and software on computers and mobile devices become more readily available to and ever growing number of end-users, the need for multimedia developers will continue to grow. The consumer now demands a richer, more interactive environment, from reading a newspaper to ordering a cup of coffee. Well-rounded, creative thinking individuals with the technical skills to bring those ideas to life will be in demand for years to come.

Whether you interests focus on digital video production, animation, motion graphics, instructional design, or web content, the employment opportunities are endless.

The Program:

Prerequisites

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Must have graduated from high school, have received a GED diploma, or be concurrently enrolled in high school
  • Basic computer skills are highly recommended

Instruction

The Interactive Digital Systems program at Flint Hill Technical College is a 4-semester Associate of Applied Science program that offers students a wide variety of training in various areas of producing interactive digital content including video production, animation, content for the Internet and digital media for electronic devices/platforms. Students will interact in a cross-platform, hands-on environment and be involved from concept through project completion.

Courses

Interactive Digital Systems is a 4-semester Associate of Applied Science program that offers students a wide variety of training in various areas of producing interactive digital content including video production, animation, content for the internet and digital media for electronic devices/platforms.  Students completing the program will gain cross-platform skills and a complete understanding of the production pipeline (workflow process) including digital video production, interactive presentations and media for multiple formats/devices and content for the web.  Graduates will be able to find digital production jobs in manufacturing, local industry, business, government, non-profits, and the regional media industry.

Associate of Applied Science Degree Program Outcomes
  • Demonstrates professional and team behavior in classroom and lab situations.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Utilizes and applies knowledge of computer software for the purpose of communicating a message, story or information visually.
  • Independently able to analyze client needs and translate them into visual form.

The Interactive Digital Systems technical certificate program is two semesters in length. The courses provide students with a foundation in multimedia development fundamentals including animation, video production, and creation of digital graphics for a variety of purposes.

Technical Certificate Program Outcomes
· Utilizes knowledge of graphics standards and techniques.
· Demonstrates use of various graphics software to create imagery.
· Utilizes image composition and design principles to complete multimedia projects.
· Demonstrates knowledge of encoding video for multiple platforms.
· Utilizes correct data flow between software packages.
· Applies ethical standards when designing graphics.
· Demonstrates creative abilities when developing a video project, animation or interactive media.

SkillsUSA is an organization for secondary and post-secondary students in the technology fields. The organization's goal is to teach leadership skills and to actively involve students outside of the classroom in community projects. All Interactive Digital Systems students have the opportunity to participate in VICA.
