Health Occupations Technology
Mission:
Students will participate in planned and supervised experiences directed toward performing health-related measures with precision, safety and efficiency consistent with fundamental health concepts and practices. Clinical practice is correlated with basic therapeutic knowledge and introductory content from the biological and behavioral sciences.

The Industry:
The Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) provides assistance to licensed practical nurses, registered nurses, practitioners, and physicians. CNAs work with patients across the lifespan, from newborn to geriatrics.
The Home Health Aide works closely with families under the supervision of an RN to provide care in the client’s home. The Restorative Aide, the Nutrition Assistant and the Activities Director provide assistance in long-term care facilities to enable residents to maintain and improve their health status.
The Program:
Prerequisites
- Must complete the ASSET test and score a 36 or above in all areas.
- Must complete TABES reading test with a score of 20 or above.
- Must have graduated from high school, recieved a GED diploma, or be concurrently enrolled in high school as a senior.
- Must be at least 16 years old.
Instruction
HOT is a one-year, half-day certificate program which gives high school seniors and post-secondary students the opportunity to explore career possibilities in the medical professions. Through a variety of introductory courses, students are prepared for full-time Division of Health and Human Services programs. At the same time, students receive training for career-focused employment opportunities which can provide income during their pursuit of additional health care training. Students will gain CNA/HHA, CPR/HHA, CPR/First Aid, Restorative Aid and Activities Director certifications allowing them to enter the workforce in a skilled healthcare occupation right away.
