Upon completing courses within the Practical Nursing program, students may pursue an Associate of Applied Science degree in Healthcare Administration and Management. This program provides students with skills and knowledge to successfully obtain a management position in healthcare.
Healthcare Administration and Management offers a two-year associate of applied science degree option.
The AAS degree emphasizes practical nursing standards and skills in the first year. In the second year, the program focuses on the necessary skills required for an entry-level administrative or management position in healthcare and general education requirements. Graduates are prepared for both entry-level nursing and management positions in healthcare.
As the health care system continues to diversify, management positions are needed in clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, mental health organizations, public health departments, and rehabilitation centers. Within these roles, health care administrators help to improve the health of the communities they serve while ensuring smooth business operations as new guidelines and regulations are put into practice. Employment in the health care management industry is expected to grow 22 percent by 2020, ensuring a variety of job opportunities for graduates.

FHTC students who have followed the academic plan and complete an Associate of Applied Science degree in Healthcare Administration/Management will be able to transition into Emporia State University’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.
