We offer high school students several ways to earn college credit and get ahead on their college career while still attending high school:
Accelerate your future by enrolling in general education or FHTC technical credits at your high school. These classes are called Concurrent Enrollment Program (CEP), because you receive both high school and college credit. General Education courses are transferable. Both face to-face and online options may be available. Talk with your counselor to determine if your school is a participating partner.
Concurrent Enrollment Partnership (CEP) programs—often referred to as “dual credit”—provide high school students the opportunity to take college credit-bearing courses in their high schools during the day, taught by college-approved high school teachers.
FHTC currently offer CEP courses at five area high schools: Emporia, Olpe, Hartford, Northern Heights, and Eureka. Our CEP program began in 2009 and has been growing steadily since then. In 2014, the College expanded the program to include not only general education courses, but technical education (CTE) offerings as well (Emporia only).
The Excellence in CTE Senate Bill funds Career Technical Education courses, making them nearly free for high school students. The courses introduce students to programs of study here on campus and give them a head start on program completion, making them a wonderful potential recruiting tool as well.
